Avoid dehydration: don’t wait until you’re thirsty

If you wait until you are thirsty to drink fluids, you’ve waited too long. As you age, your ability to sense thirst decreases, and by the time you notice thirst, you could already be dangerously dehydrated. Keep ahead of the game by drinking before you are thirsty, and stick to beverages that don’t contain caffeine, alcohol, or high amounts of sugar.

Know your medications’ effects in the heat

Many medications can make you more susceptible to the heat. Medication for blood pressure, heart medication, and diuretics are all common culprits.
